Galilee Medical Center's Internal-Geriatric and Geriatric Rehabilitation Unit focuses on the field of providing care for the unique health needs of older adults and provides quality treatment tailored to their specific conditions and needs. Our aim is to promote patient health and improved functioning in order to achieve the greatest possible degree of independence and to enhance each patient's quality of life.

Our department is committed to a holistic, multi-disciplinary approach that examines the entirety of the medical and emotional challenges facing the senior patient. In addition, we offer individual, family and group guidance and assistance from external resources when necessary. We provide all of the services and treatments to achieve an optimal level of physical, psychological and cognitive functioning.

Further, our patients also may receive additional hospital services such as occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech therapy, crafts workshops, social workers, dieticians and pharmacologists.

The geriatric department's team participates in scientific and clinical research in the areas of free radicals, lipids, arteriosclerosis and bone and metabolic diseases. Moreover, they attend conferences of the Israeli Geriatric Association, the Internal Medicine Association, the Neurological Association and conferences on the subject of senior focused medicine. The department’s nursing unit is recognized for specialization in geriatric nursing

The Geriatric Department also operates a clinic for comprehensive geriatric evaluation. The clinic team offers professional advice, and medical and para medical recommendations to patients, their families and general community physician for a wide range of issues including dementia, depression and pain control. The clinic treats senior adults aged 65 and over at all levels of functioning.
